Cycling At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Men's Team Pursuit
The men's team pursuit at the 2008 Summer Olympics took place between August 17 and 18, at the Laoshan Velodrome. Qualification Great Britain automatically qualified a team because of their victory at the 2008 UCI Track Cycling World Championships. They also won the late 2007 World Cup event in Sydney, affording another place based on UCI rankings. This extra place was given to Colombia. No B World Championship was held in this event. Competition format The men's team pursuit race consists of a 4 km race between two teams of four cyclists, starting on opposite sides of the track. If one team catches the other, the race is over. The tournament consisted of an initial qualifying round. The top four teams in the qualifying round remained in contention for the gold medal, the 5th to 8th place teams could compete for a possible bronze, and the remaining teams were eliminated. Laoshan Velodrome
The Laoshan Velodrome () is a velodrome that is located in Laoshan, Shijingshan District, Beijing, China. It was built for the 2008 Summer Olympics. The venue was tested during the UCI Track World Cup in December 2007. The velodrome hosted Cycling at the 2008 Summer Olympics, track cycling disciplines during the Olympics. It has a capacity of 6,000 spectators, a 250-metre oval shaped track, and a total land surface of 32,920 square metres. The Laoshan Velodrome will be used for international and national cycling competitions and training after the Olympic Games. The seating capacity may be reduced to 3,500. Damien Gaudin (born 20 August 1986 in Beaupréau) is a French former road bicycle racer, who competed as a professional from 2008 to 2021. He competed for France at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Gaudin left at the end of the 2013 season, and joined for the 2014 season. He was named in the start list for the 2015 Tour de France and won two combativity awards in the 2018 Tour de France. Luke Roberts
Luke Justin Roberts (born 25 January 1977) is a sports director and former Australian racing cyclist specialising in both track cycling and road bicycle racing. Born in Adelaide, South Australia, he resides both in Adelaide and in Cologne, Germany. Coming from a cycle racing family, he started competitive cycling at the age of 13, and turned professional in 2002. He was an Australian Institute of Sport scholarship holder. and a member of the Comnet Senges team (2002–2004), and of from 2005 to 2007. Bradley McGee
Bradley John McGee OAM (born 24 February 1976 in Sydney, New South Wales) is an Australian former professional racing cyclist. He is currently the head coach of the New South Wales Institute of Sport (NSWIS). He started cycling in 1986 at the age of ten. He lives in Sydney and in Nice, France. Career His greatest success as a road cyclist has been winning the 2003 prologue of the Tour de France, and leading the race for three days in 2003. In 2004 he wore the leader's pink jersey of the Giro d'Italia for one day. In 2005 he wore the leader's golden jersey for four days in the Vuelta a España. Mark Ian Jamieson (born 4 May 1984, in Dandenong) is an Australian professional racing cyclist. He started competing at the age of 10 in 1994, he first represented his country in the World Junior Track Championships in 2001. He was an Australian Institute of Sport scholarship holder. He had a successful track career, including a world championship in the team pursuit in 2006, and fourth in the Beijing Olympics as a member of the Australian Team Pursuit Squad On 15 February 2010 Jamieson appeared before the South Australian District Court on multiple child sex charges and pleaded guilty to four counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old girl and one count of indecent assault with a girl aged under 16. The charges related to alleged conduct in Adelaide between November 2008 and January 2009. He received a suspended sentence for the offences. Jack Bobridge
Jack Bobridge (born 13 July 1989) is an Australian former professional racing cyclist, who rode professionally between 2010 and 2016. In 2019 he was convicted of drug dealing and sentenced to a four-year prison term. He admitted to using banned recreational drugs during his racing career, noting that he used cocaine in training leading up to major cycling events, including the Olympics. Career Bobridge's career combined both track and road cycling. In 2008, he was part of the Australian men's pursuit team that finished in fourth place at the Olympics, along with Graeme Brown, Mark Jamieson, Luke Roberts and Brad McGee.
